ERM Student Completes Summer Placement as a Research Methodologist with United Way of Forsyth County

ERM M.S. student Christine Meyer recently completed a summer placement with United Way of Forsyth County, located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. While with the United Way, Christine conducted qualitative and quantitative research related to place-based investment strategies, specifically in regard to increasing educational attainment and the high school graduation rate in Forsyth County. She was able to meet with stakeholders from across the county in fields such as healthcare, education, housing, and social services to help with the selection of neighborhoods for upcoming place-based investments. As a result of working closely with the mapping department, Christine will have the opportunity to participate in a workshop later this summer on utilizing GIS software so she can incorporate this new knowledge into future evaluation projects. This experience enabled her to see the connection between research and evaluation and to put into practice skills she has learned in the classroom while in ERM, all while having a positive impact on the community.
